Wonderful
program! I too have looked at all of the launchpad-type programs looking
for the perfect one. I just downloaded RUNit a few moments ago and
it seems to have many of the key ingredients that work for me. For
us old-fashioned keyboard junkies, may I suggest one enhancement:
hotkey shortcuts to the programs - even if just allowing the ampersand
to hotkey a letter - eg. &File Manager would launch File Manager with
a press of the "F". Many thanks for your consideration.

Super
vielen Dank Mike

Still
the best program of its type and the new beta features are fantastic!
Two suggestions: 1. The using of sets is great. Would it be possible
to be able to transfer entries across sets. When setting up different
sets for each border I found I wanted to get move some entries from
main to a new set. I had to go to the ini files and cut and paste
that way or else reinstall all entries. It would be great to cut and
paste between sets in the setup dialog. 2. As Runit is running all
the time would an alarm feature be possible. This would save using
up more memory with a seperate alarm program. I am thinking of a simple
popup reminder type alarm that could be run within runit. Keep up
the good work Richard Banham

BL

Runit
causes a conflict with Links LS 1998. When running Runit Links LS
1998 refuses to load properly. It keeps minimizing to the task bar
and won't go to full screen. Ending Runit fixes the problem immediately
and all is well again.

I really
like your program, however, I have some suggestions: 1. When Runit
is activated from for example the left side of the screen, other windows
that are moved over the left border of the screen and back have lines
on them (they aren't being refreshed properly. Could this be fixed.
Ik occures with all program windows under win95 Osr2 (probably also
under other windows versions). For an illustration, see: http://www.warande.uu.nl/~hulsebos/lines.gif
2. Can the separators at the top and bottom be removed (they are ugly,
not needed and take up space when there is no Runit setup button on
the top or bottom of the menu? 3. Could the menu be configured to
use multiple borders at the same time, and using left click at the
border as well as a right click? (there is nothing else on the borders
to click on) 4. The look of the small icons is a bit ugly compared
to the small icons in the windows start menu. Large icons look great
though. You should use the small icons and not resampled large icons
for the small icons! 5. Could the 3d look of the buttons be improved
to match the 3d look of the buttons in internet explorer 4 or 5, and
could the look and color of the non-3d buttons match the properties
of the standard windows menus? I already like your program a lot,
I use it constantly, however, I think the features above can make
it even better!!! (I don't think you need to build in drag and drop
support on the menu itself for the menu items. It works fine this
way) Regards and good luck, Edo Hulsebos (hulsebos@warande.uu.nl)

First
of all, thanks for the program - one of a handfull I have tried that
performs well and provides a fast, useful function. I downloaded the
Beta version so that I could use the group feature. The problem that
I have been having is that the program fills up, will not accept any
new entries except that it will keep entering the last program before
the message. When I restart Runit I get a "no bitmap" error message
and then empties the ini file so that I have to start entering the
programs again from scratch

it must seem trivial. I find having the seperator line at the top

option you can use by inserting a seperator like other shortcuts?

Hallo

The
beta version is working great. It has caused absolutely no problems
with Windows 98 (4.10.1998) with IE 5.0 (5.00.2314.1003). Which is
very good news. Another bit of good news, if explorer crashes, I lose
the icon in the systray, but RUNit runs without problem. On the wish
list side, I have found I can create shortcuts for the My Computer
drive links and Control Panel applets and link them through RUNit.
I'd like to be able link them directly through RUNit (for folder and
system access, natch). Because the links method fails, if the links
get moved or deleted. Overall, I'm a VERY satisfied customer.

Some
minor bugs, running Runit 2.1beta1 on NT 4sp3. None of these are serious
so I haven't logged them as 'real' bugs: If you choose to have the
menu appear when you right click at the bottom of the screen, and
you have the windows toolbar autohiding at the bottom, then the toolbar
never comes up. The Runit window must be covering it. When I went
to change the icon for an item, I got a message telling me that the
group "GROUP" could not be found. Then it took me to a page of icons
anyway. This happened all the time when I was running Runit the first
time, but not today. The 'shortcut' arrow symbol appears over the
icons when you drag a shortcut into Runit. It would be nice if the
app could follow the shortcut back and use the icon without the shortcut
symbol. It would be nice if the setup dialogues were all together,
with a 'tab' interface. It would make the app look a little tidier.
But obviously this doesn't affect the running of the app at all, so
feel free to ignore it!

First
off, this is a great bit of software. I've been looking for unobtrusive,
easy to use launchers for a while now, but this one is easily the
best - simple, fast, easy and painless. The best part is the idea
of moving to the edge of the screen and right-clicking - no more autohide
windows popping up when you don't need them - great! I'm currently
playing around with the beta and it seems ok, I'll let you know if
I spot any bugs. In the meantime my only request is that you use the
small icons where available, instead of 'scrunching' down larger ones.
An option to right-click a file and do "Add to Runit" would be nice
too but not essential. Is there a mailing list for new beta releases?
If so, count me in.

How
about the ability to organize the list with directories. They need
not be true dirs, but at least something that will cut down on the
length of the entire list and allow some grouping of similar programs.
As it stands now, in 1024 by 768 mode, my Runit list extends almost
to the bottom of the screen. Great program! Please keep it as simple
as possible, despite pleas like mine (Grin). Nex

If
the runit.ini file could be placed in a user-selectable folder (i.e.
on a shared drive) several people could use the same configuration.
Perhaps the program could support both a user-specific runit.ini file
kept in the windows folder, and a "shared" ini file.

Since
I found your program in the CD of a shareware magazine and installed
it (even the magazine didn't give many information about the program)
I've been using it every day (it's possibly the program I've most
times ever used) and I think that your idea about it is really fantastic.
I only want to ask you for two little improvements (sorry for my poor
english, I'm Spanish): first, the program produces some "marks" (lines)
in the window of the all the programs when moving them by the "hot
zone" that makes the menu appear. And second, when the number of items
in the list is big enough and the list appears with two arrows (up
and down) for moving through the menu: well, could you make the arrows
to activate without pressing the mouse button (only putting the cursor
over it, like in the Windows 98 start menu). The aim of your program
is to make things easier and more simple, and I think this would be
a good improvement. That's all. Congratulations for your program and
sorry again for my English knowledge, I hope you could understand
me.

An
excellent program, but could you please advise me of the filename
that contains the contents of the list so I can back up my changes.
Two ideas for changes. One, being able to use the page up/down key
for navigating the list would be useful. Two, allowing group names
and a second sub-menu would make this unbeatable, but I also know
that growing some applications can eliminate the benefits for which
they were originally designed. Bob.

I really
like the program, but I have one wish to add to the wish list. I mostly
use the program at work on a networked computer. At work, we have
a networked user drive which we use to store personal files, programs,
etc. Since there are literally several hundred computers, I can log
onto any of them and get my data. However... I am not an administrator
and do not have access to the Windows NT directory. Unfortunately
this means that Runit can't make the runit.ini file because I don't
have permission to write in that directory. My wish is to see runit
be able to keep the ini file within the directory its running from.
(Actually, I do have limited administrator access and can write that
file into the windows directory, but I can only really do that for
a computer or two since I have to log in as administrator and copy
the file into the directory. Doing that to all the terminals I use
would take forever.) Thanks for the program...

Great
application - just what I need. A user defined hot-spot is an excellent
idea - I hate it when an auto-hiden bar pops out when you're in the
middle of something else. Congratulations - better than the heavyweight
products around. One thing that would be nice - The facility to include
sub-groups. So that you could, for example, have 'Office97' in a sub-group

I very
much like the RUNIT program and have place it in my startup group.
However, just recently, a file called RUNIT.TMP also has begun to
appear in the startup group as well. When encountered, Windows 98
wants to equate the .TMP extension with a program (eg. Notepad). Have
I done something wrong? Thanks very much for sharing your efforts.

Hi
Have you thought about making the menu activate under right-clicking
anywhere, whether on the desktop or within any application so what
the menu does is interface with the running application and 'reads'
the active menus and replaces them with an 'auto-find-mouse' Right-Click
popup menu? There used to be one on the Amiga called Magic Menu, it
rocked :) Best Regards and thanks Marc Fovargues

First;
thank you for releasing this program as freeware! I have a couple
of suggestions: o MS-Word 97 seems to detect the right-click, if you
click within its window and are using the anywhere-on-the-screen mode
with the Control key. o RUNit is great as it is, but cascading menus
(or multiple) menus would make it even better! Ian

Hi
! First of all i want to say that i like your launchpad very much.
I'm surching for such a tool for a long time. Now the little "problem":
If the program-list is too long (if it goes over the edge of the screen),
how can i get the programs at the bottom of the list ? There's no
scrollbar or anything like this. It's no problem in the moment - but
maybe you'll think about that. Bye. Michael.

Yo
Lex, Very nice. You've almost got it exactly right. Add one or two
features and RUNit will be the best launcher in the business: 1a.
Instead of just accessing the main menu with ctrl+alt, why not allow
me to choose the key I'd like to use. (In my case, I'd pick F5 all
by itself). 1b. In addition, is there any way to have more menus,
assignable to additional keys? This way, as one menu fills up (I am
assuming they fill up, which may be mistaken), you can create a second,
accessible on a different hotkey (which for me would be F6 all by
itself). 2. When I tried to launch programs with the keyboard, I had
to scroll up or down the menu to the program name. Why shouldn't I
be able to launch each program like you can in the start menu or program
menu, that is, by pressing the first letter of the title. For example,
my menu is as follows: Xywrite Lotus 1-2-3 Write Netscape Eudora I
activate the menu, and press X, and Xywrite loads. Fast, and simple,
and keyboard based. I hope this helps. And let me know if these changes
are possible, and if you eventually do them. Bob Zimmerman

I have
chosen RunIt after testing several different launches downloaded from
www.winfile.com. The main idea is so excellent in its simplicity,
that it is even difficult to suggest how it can be improved. It is
a really good program! I noticed that it is sensible time-by time
to look at RunIt menu seriously and remove some items that are used
much less often than it was expected when they were added. Maybe it
would be interesting to make RunIt to present statistic, how often
the different items are used or even to automatically remove (this
must be optional, of course) some really unused items,

if you can make the Runit program to have more columns. Right now

Thanks
a lot. Your program does a lot with very little overhead. Have you
thought about being able to make each menu item have it's own hot

way you could call up the menu, select & run items without using the
mouse. Thanks again.

Does RUNit use up much memory? 2. Is there really an uninstall problem

Nice program! One feature that would be nice is to make the menu appear
with the middle mouse button anywhere on screen(without holding down

right side of the screen will bring up my music shortcuts. (and why
not a third one by clicking on top to get my graphics proggies running.)
another suggestion: when browsing for an icon, why not go back to
the last location of the icons, instead of the default run32.dll.

means "Sinclair's" Z81. I use to run a converted version of that system

Hello!
First, I want to compliment you on both a wonderful program, and on
your excellent CENTS of humor on your web page! I love the HD reformat
bug with the uninstall program, and the restart in ZX-81 mode (which
was my first computer), and of course the letters to and from Bill
Gates! I have only two things to mention on version 2 of RUNit. First,
and this is minor, it would be nice if RUNit would either cascade
the menu windows, if you had so many that it filled up the screen,
or somehow would scroll through the list. Of course, I could just
limit my shortcuts, but that would be taking away from the use of
your wonderful program! Secondly, it would be nice to have an option
in the setup to be able to left-click at the active region of the
screen, to access the setup menu, rather than having to use CTRL-SHIFT-Right-click.
That would just make it a bit easier. I chose not to have the setup
option appear in the list because it would take up an extra spot that
could have been used for another shortcut. Anyway, these are minor
issues, and I am extremely happy with the program just as it is. You've
done a wonderful job, and I appreciate your generosity. I'm recommending
this program to everyone I know! Jeff
